The locality data has been obtained from a variety of sources, including Mammillarias.net, Desert Tropicals, and various field collection lists. The individual ranges of some cactus species are wide and only a single representative location has been used for each species.
Rainfall and temperature data has come from a variety of sources, including the Global Historical Climatology Network. Rainfall is shown by the red bars, maximum and minimum temperatures are shown by the green and blue lines.
In most cases, the closest station to the species locality has been used. In a few cases, the closest station has been ignored when it is clearly on the wrong side of important local features such as mountains, or at a very different altitude. Particular problems occur in mountainous areas due to the lack of weather stations and the large changes in temperature over small distances due to altitude.
In all cases, the data for southern hemisphere stations has been shifted by six months so that it corresponds to seasons in the northern hemisphere. This is for convenience for my use, and for that of the majority of growers who are north of the equator. For example, autumn rainfall is always shown in Sep/Oct/Nov on the graph whether the species is from the northern or southern hemisphere.
